Leadership

Welcome from the Principal

Hello All!!

I am so excited your web search has led you here. Cole Arts and Science Academy is a place where all students breathe F.I.R.E. and learn. As a school, we focus on the grade level standards and provide support or scaffolding to help students with their individual needs. We believe in a well rounded education that includes our Essentials (Art, PE, and Music) and Science for students. Each morning students start off with a classroom meeting that is focused on classroom needs or goals.

My name is Meredith Brown and I am the principal at Cole Arts and Science Academy. I started working at Cole in July of 2021. I attended college at the University of Oklahoma. I have my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and my graduate degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum, and Supervision. I started my career in Tulsa, Oklahoma as a 6th grade teacher, and I moved to Denver in 2015. I started as a teacher with DPS, then became a Dean of Students, and then an Assistant Principal . During my time with DPS, I have worked at schools that serve students who are multilingual learners, students who are served by center based programs, and schools that serve ECE students.

As the principal of Cole, I want to be sure to get to know all of our families and students by taking the time to meet with you and learn what you already love and/or want from Cole as your neighborhood school. I hope to continue to make Cole a hub for families, where we meet more than just the academic needs of students. After a few hectic years of schooling, a goal I have is to make school an exciting place to learn and work.

Thank you all for the ways you support your children everyday - I am looking forward to partnering with you. If you would like to connect individually, please reach out via email to meredith_brown@dpsk12.net with a preferred day and time.

Instructional Leadership Team

The Cole Instructional leadership team is made up of one leadership partner, one dean of student services, and 4 teacher leaders. Our leadership partner is Laurie Fields who is a veteran in the district. The assistant principal of Cole is Brandon Shields. He has served Cole in a variety of roles since 2018. Mr. Shields helps with student behaviors, teacher growth, and student intervention. Our ELA-S teacher leaders are Guillermo Iglesias, Melissa Carrasquel-Denoto, and Paola Mendoza. They all support different parts of our transitional native language instruction model, as well as various team members. We are grateful for their expertise. Finally, we have Sarah Wood as our ELA-E leader. She also steps up to support our new teachers. Our instructional leadership team meets weekly to discuss upcoming curriculum, school needs, and events.
