Frequently Asked Questions

Arrival

  • School Day starts promptly at 8:05 am.
  • Supervision starts at 7:45.
  • No students may be dropped off before that time; there is no supervision as we do not offer before school care at this time.
  • Supervision on the playground will start at 7:45. For the safety of all students, unsupervised students are not allowed on the playground before that time.
  • ALL late students need to check in at the office upon arrival

Dismissal

  • Parents are responsible for making arrangements so their children are appropriately taken care of at dismissal each day.
  • Parents need to inform classroom teachers about how student pick-up  will be handled. (i.e. babysitter picks up student; student goes home by themselves, etc).
  • Students are expected to be picked up or leave the school premises immediately following dismissal.
  • Students will not be able to loiter in the hallways, they will need to get to their assigned after school program or leave the school property.
  • Please Note: Students will only be dismissed early to a guardian or someone listed on the emergency contact sheet that is at least 18 years old and arrives in person for pick up with valid identification

NO exceptions will be made for a child under 18 to pick up a student early.

Tardies and Absences

  • If your child will be absent or tardy, please call the school by 8:00 am.
  • Please leave the child’s name, room number and reason for absence. If we don’t hear from you, parents/ guardians will be called by the school on the day of the absence. A written note, signed by the parent or guardian, explaining an absence or tardy must be sent with your child when they return to school (if contact wasn’t made).
  • If your child is tardy, please come in with them or write a note/call the office to excuse the student. Otherwise the school secretary will be contacting the student’s parent or guardian to determine where a child is and the tardy will be recorded as unexcused.
  • Students who are tardy negatively impact instruction in the classroom. Please make every effort to get your child to school on time.

Cell Phones

The use of cellular phones and non-Cole electronic devices is prohibited during school hours. Students are permitted to use their cell phones before or after school to arrange for transportation or communicate with family members at their own risk. Students that bring cellphones to school should ensure they are off while in the building and turned into their teacher until the end of the day. Students that refuse to comply with this request will have their cell phone confiscated for the school day. Repeat offenses will have cell phones confiscated for longer periods of time. Parents will then need to call the office to schedule an appointment to retrieve confiscated items.

Cole Arts & Science Academy is not responsible for lost or stolen items, including cell phones. We will not check cameras or perform searches to find lost cell phones.
